Do you own a Laguiole pocket knife made in France with an A.I.P.C.L. number?

Look up here who owns it and which forge it came from. If you do not have a number, please ask your dealer or the forge.

Where the knives are made

Ty Coutelier

Everything about this house, its history and its signature is on our page about the forge.

From here on we speak

Have your Ty Coutelier knife examined

You already own a knife from this house? We can examine it and issue an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity - no matter where you bought it.

Ty Coutelier is a workshop that follows its own path. The name comes from Breton: Ty means house. Ty Coutelier is therefore, quite literally, the house of the cutler, and that is exactly how the workshop in the Aveyron is meant to be, a place you enter as you would a home.

The road there ran through Brittany, past a grandfather who treated his knife like a treasure, through a detour into baking and through more than ten years of training within a Laguiole company. The workshop has stood since 2019. Buying a knife there means taking a piece of that story with you.

Every workshop has its signature. At Ty Coutelier it is the care taken over the transitions: the fit of the platines, the cleanness of the mitres, the way the spring runs out. These are pieces from a small workshop, not series production, and it shows.

That is exactly what we look at in your photographs. If in doubt we ask the workshop itself before issuing a certificate.

How it works

1

You order the examination. In the original-laguiole.de shop, for 10.00 euros, like a product. Then you upload photographs of your knife in your customer account: open and closed, the bee, the spine, the blade with the forge mark, and if available the receipt or packaging.

2

We examine it. We compare your knife with what we know from 30 years of trading with French forges, and when in doubt we ask the forge itself.

3

You get the result. If your knife is genuine it receives its own number, its page on aipcl.com and the certificate as a PDF. If it is not, we tell you that too.

What it costs

10.00 euros

Examining and registering one knife costs 10.00 euros.

If the examination shows that your knife does not come from a French forge, we refund the amount, of course. You pay only for a certificate you actually receive.

The examination is ordered in the original-laguiole.de shop. With the purchase you buy the examination, not the certificate; whether we issue it depends on the result of examining your photographs.
