A.I.P.C.L. transfer

When the knife changes hands, the certificate travels with it

Transferring A.I.P.C.L. ownership, tradition passed from hand to hand

When you buy a Laguiole or Thiers pocket knife at original-laguiole.de, you receive not only a handmade piece from France but also its unique A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity. That document is the real proof of the authenticity, the origin and the craft tradition behind your knife. Your name is recorded in the download area of the certificate, which makes the link between you and your Laguiole official.

But there comes a moment when one parts with a faithful companion, either to acquire a newer and finer model, or because one wants to pass the pleasure of a particular piece on to another enthusiast. That is precisely what the transfer of the A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity is for: it brings the new owner into the same authentic history.

The transfer, step by step

1
The seller creates a codeIn the customer account at original-laguiole.de, in the JOIN-Community area, every knife has a "transfer code" button. One click and the code is there. It is valid for 60 days and can be withdrawn at any time should the sale fall through.
2
The code travels with the knifeBest of all together with the A.I.P.C.L. card. Whoever holds the card knows the number; whoever holds the code may take the knife over. The two belong together, one alone is not enough.
3
The buyer registersA free account at original-laguiole.de, then the A.I.P.C.L. number and the code are entered in the JOIN-Community. The knife changes hands at once, with no waiting and no enquiry.
4
The handover in the JOIN-CommunityThe knife appears with the new owner and disappears from the previous one. The seller's access link to the certificate stops working, the buyer receives one of their own. The seller's invoice stays in their account: they did buy the knife, and that remains true.
5
The new entry in the certificateThe certificate page names the new owner as the current one and the previous owner with their period. The history of the knife carries on that way, from hand to hand.
6
Release the page if others should see itAfter a transfer the certificate page is closed to strangers: anyone entering the number only sees that the knife is registered. If the new owner wants the details to be visible, for a later sale for instance, they release the page in their customer account under "Personal data". They themselves always see their certificate, through the button in the JOIN-Community.

The value of the certificate: more than a document

The A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity is far more than a sheet of paper or a digital file. It is the identity of your Laguiole knife, the proof of its origin, the guarantee that it was made in France and is not a cheap imitation.

Thanks to the transfer, every resale keeps its value, because the certificate travels with the knife to its new owner. Authenticity therefore remains unbroken, and your knife becomes a living heirloom that goes on writing its own history.

Does your Laguiole not have an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity yet?

You can have it registered afterwards, no matter where you bought the knife. We check from your photographs whether it really comes from a French forge, assign it to that forge and register it under its own number. Your knife then has the same page and the same document as any knife bought from us.

The examination costs 10.00 euros. If the result is negative, we refund it.
