The official certificate of authenticity, so that a tradition lives on

When a Laguiole cutler practises his craft with devotion and a tradition centuries old, every blow of the hammer produces more than a knife. It produces a unique piece that carries something of him. Every blade, every engraving, every curved line is an expression of pride, precision and love of detail.

While the true masters keep the art of the Laguiole alive, the market is flooded with cheap mass production: made industrially, stamped by machine, and still sold without shame as a genuine Laguiole. Buyers looking for an authentic Laguiole made in France are disappointed and misled. They end up with poor quality, without ever knowing that real, hand forged Laguiole knives are a world apart in beauty, durability and character.

This is exactly where A.I.P.C.L. comes in: the digital certificate of authenticity that ties a knife inseparably to its origin, to the forge, to the master and finally to its proud owner. Every resale is documented, every entry carried forward. The knife does not merely remain an heirloom of steel and horn, it becomes a living chapter of its own history.

An example of an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity Every Laguiole knife handmade in France and sold through original-laguiole.de comes with such a certificate, available as an A4 download.

1How can a traditionally made French Laguiole knife be recognised beyond doubt?

Only through the official certificate of authenticity issued by A.I.P.C.L., developed in close cooperation with the most respected Laguiole forges in France. This certificate is more than a piece of paper: it is incorruptible proof of origin and authenticity. Every buyer, including a later one after a resale, can check online at any time using the unique identification number:

the forge and the place of origin
the date of purchase and the invoice number
the name of the dealer
every previous owner with the exact date of transfer

2Which forges are part of A.I.P.C.L.?

We work exclusively with genuine French forges that actually make their knives themselves. Imports from the Far East, or dealers who merely resell, have no place with us. Our aim is to protect and encourage the true Laguiole tradition, which is why we examine every forge closely before it is admitted. And we remain open to further houses that share our values.

3How do you obtain an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity?

It is straightforward: as soon as your Laguiole knife is in your hands, you receive an A.I.P.C.L. identification number. With that number you have immediate access to everything recorded about your knife, including the PDF certificate with the official document. Since September 2025 an A.I.P.C.L. card is available on request. It carries a QR code: scan it with a phone and you arrive directly at the page on aipcl.com where the certificate can be downloaded, without typing the number at all.

4How is a resale documented?

1

The seller is already registered through the identification number.

2

The buyer registers free of charge at original-laguiole.de.

3

The buyer then claims the identification number in the customer area.

4

The seller confirms the transfer.

5You are a Laguiole dealer and would like to offer your customers the certificate of origin?

Every Laguiole dealer can become part of this quality mark. Write to us through the contact page and show where your products come from. Once we have checked this, we set up the issuing of certificates with you personally. You then officially become part of the A.I.P.C.L. and help to preserve the tradition and authenticity of the Laguiole knife.

Supporting forges

Our certificates of authenticity are supported by the following respected French forges:

Does your Laguiole not have an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity yet?

You can have it registered afterwards, no matter where you bought the knife. We check from your photographs whether it really comes from a French forge, assign it to that forge and register it under its own number. Your knife then has the same page and the same document as any knife bought from us.

The examination costs 10.00 euros. If the result is negative, we refund it.
