The A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity

Proof that your knife really does come from France

How does the A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity work?

Imagine holding a handmade Laguiole or Thiers knife, a knife that is not simply a tool but a piece of French culture, tradition and craftsmanship without equal. Every detail, from the handle material to the blade, tells a story. But how do you prove that this particular knife really is an authentic piece from a French forge?

That is exactly what the A.I.P.C.L. system is for: your guarantee of authenticity and transparency. How you get your certificate depends solely on where you bought your knife. There are two paths, and one of them is yours.

Case 1: bought at original-laguiole.de Your certificate already exists. There is nothing to do and nothing to pay. This way Case 2: bought elsewhere From another dealer, anywhere in the world, or straight from the forge. We examine your knife and register it. Your dealer may well cover the fee for you. This way

You bought your Laguiole knife at original-laguiole.de Then everything is already done. No application, no examination, no extra cost.

At original-laguiole.de, every Laguiole pocket knife is certified as standard. It is not an extra you have to order, it is the normal case. Two things make that possible: only forges that genuinely make their knives in France are carried there. And original-laguiole.de is at the same time the founder of the A.I.P.C.L. The origin is therefore never in question, it is the very condition for a knife to enter the range at all.

As soon as you buy a knife there, it is given its own A.I.P.C.L. number. That number is not merely a technical reference, it is the fingerprint of your knife, unique and impossible to repeat.

Right after the purchaseyour personal number is sent to you through MyChat. You know at once: this knife is mine alone. It is as singular as a work of art.
On your invoicethe A.I.P.C.L. number is clearly recorded. You can therefore show at any time that your knife is an original from France, not a copy and not an imitation.
In your customer area under JOIN-Communityyou find an overview of everything you own. One click downloads the digital A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity, always at hand, an emblem of your collection.
On request: the printed cardIn addition to the free certificate you can order an A.I.P.C.L. card in credit card format. It carries your knife's number and a personal QR code: one scan and your certificate of authenticity opens. It costs 2.00 euros per knife and is free for OL-Premium-Gold customers.
New: your own photosAdd your own pictures of your knife to its certificate: in the photo gallery of your customer area at original-laguiole.de, upload a photo and choose Assign to AIPCL certificate of authenticity below the photo to pick the matching knife. The photo then appears on the certificate page, for you, for a future buyer and for anyone scanning the QR code on your card. Here is how.

You bought your knife somewhere else From a dealer in your country, anywhere in the world, or directly from the forge.

Your knife can have an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity in that case too. We simply do not know it yet, so we have to look at it. Before you pay anything, however, one question to the place you bought from is worth asking.

Ask your dealer first

More and more forges and shops cover the certification fee for their customers, either in full or by half. They hand out a small slip with a personal A.I.P.C.L. code when you buy. Simply ask whether your dealer has one.

Up to 100 %: your dealer can cover the fee for you Some partners cover half, others the whole amount. Your slip says which discount applies to you. You enter the code in a field when ordering and the amount comes off at once. Each code is good for one use.

Did you not get a slip? Then ask for one. It costs you nothing, and the more often the question is asked, the more houses will join in. After all, these are their knives that we vouch for here.

If your dealer does not work with us

Then you buy the A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity directly from us. The way there is short.

1
Buy the certificateThe examination and certification cost 10.00 euros. If you have a code from your dealer, enter it here and the discount comes off at once. For several knives simply order several certificates.
2
Upload three photographsAfter the purchase you upload three pictures of your knife in your customer area here on aipcl.com. We need no more than that, but those three we do need.
3
We examine your picturesWe look at your knife closely: the construction, the workmanship, the marks of the forge.
4
You receive your certificateIf we conclude that your knife was indeed made in France, you receive the A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity with its own number and its own page.
If we cannot certify your knife, you get your money back That goes without saying. You are not paying for us to look, you are paying for the certificate. If there is none, your money stays with you.
If we can certify it, the purchase is final Examination and certification are a service, and it is performed once the certificate is issued. A refund or a cancellation of the order is no longer possible after that. We would rather tell you beforehand than surprise you with it afterwards.

In detail: how the examination works and what we look for

More than a document, a piece of history

The A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity is not only proof, it is the written soul of your knife. You can keep it digitally or print it on fine paper, like the companion document of a work of art that one presents with pride.

With A.I.P.C.L. we give every knife an indelible seal of authenticity, whether it is a characterful Laguiole en Aubrac or a Le Thiers by Claude Dozorme rich in tradition. So that you own not merely a knife, but a piece of living French culture. Whether you come from case 1 or from case 2 makes no difference to the certificate itself: it is the same document, the same page, the same series of numbers.

Who may see your certificate?

Your certificate page is not public to begin with. Anyone entering your knife number or scanning the QR code of your card only sees that a knife is registered under that number, without the details. The reason is simple: otherwise someone could try numbers and look up who owns which knives.

You always see your own certificate. In your customer account at original-laguiole.de a button in the JOIN-Community leads straight there for every knife, even when the page is closed.

If others should see the details, a prospective buyer for instance, release the page in your customer area under Personal data. You can close it again at any time. To let a single person in, send them the link from your invoices; it opens the page even when it is otherwise closed.

A.I.P.C.L. makes your Laguiole knife immortal, in its origin, its history and its singularity.
Is your knife still waiting for its certificate? If you did not buy it at original-laguiole.de, the way leads through case 2:
we examine your knife and enter it into the A.I.P.C.L.

Does your Laguiole not have an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity yet?

You can have it registered afterwards, no matter where you bought the knife. We check from your photographs whether it really comes from a French forge, assign it to that forge and register it under its own number. Your knife then has the same page and the same document as any knife bought from us.

The examination costs 10.00 euros. If the result is negative, we refund it.
