Cutlery ranking
Which cutlery has the most certified Laguiole knives in the A.I.P.C.L. register? This list answers that, separately for the large houses and for the individual knifemakers.
Since 2012
Since 2012 we have been recording the authenticity of Laguiole knives in a register. It now holds 24,254 knives, every single one checked by hand and assigned to its cutlery.
It is an honour for us to do this work for such a beautiful craft. Hats off to so much beauty, tradition and love of the trade: to the houses that have been refining the same shape for generations, and to the knifemakers who turn horn, mammoth ivory and damascus into pieces that will exist only once.
This list is our way of thanking them. It shows who appears how often in our register. Nothing more, but nothing less either.

For individual knifemakers we show the rank, but no quantities. A knifemaker shapes every knife by hand, often as a one-off piece - a number would be the wrong measure here.
What the numbers say, and what they do not
A number is not a verdict
Whoever has many knives in the register does not build the better knives. They build more of them, or their customers register them more often. A workshop making eighty knives a year cannot be at the top here. Their work is not one bit lesser for it.
How the counting works
Every knife that carries an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity and is assigned to a cutlery is counted, across all years since 2012. Whether it was bought from a dealer or submitted for examination later makes no difference.
Once a month
The figure is drawn at the start of the month and stands until the next one. A cutlery can therefore rely on its number, and the arrow beside it shows what has changed since the previous month.
All forges at a glance
Does your Laguiole not have an A.I.P.C.L. certificate of authenticity yet?
You can have it registered afterwards, no matter where you bought the knife. We check from your photographs whether it really comes from a French forge, assign it to that forge and register it under its own number. Your knife then has the same page and the same document as any knife bought from us.
The examination costs 10.00 euros. If the result is negative, we refund it.
